Report

Rohan Dennis stormed to an impressive victory to lead home an INEOS Grenadiers 1-2-3 in a dominant team performance in the prologue time trial at Tour de Romandie.

Dennis beat teammates Geraint Thomas and Richie Porte on the punchy 4.05km course by nine seconds to secure the race lead, with Filippo Ganna ninth to make it four Grenadiers in the top 10.

Remi Cavagna was the best-placed rider from another team, 11 seconds back, while early pace-setter Stefan Bissegger finished fifth.

Rohan Dennis: “It was full gas… Then full gas even more! It was quite tricky to pace it, because there’s still a minute and a half uphill and there’s no way to get the extra speed unless you’ve got the power. That last 700-800m really hurt. Tomorrow is more of a sprint, so I’d like to keep the leader’s jersey for as long as possible, but let’s see how it goes with the big mountains on Saturday then the final day with the TT. I think there’s plenty of work for me to do for Richie and G.”
