The 2026 Giro d’Italia reached its conclusion on the cobblestones of Rome. The final 133-kilometer processional stage was a circuit race around the Colosseum.

While the General Classification was already decided, the sprinters had a score to settle. After a frustrating three weeks of near-misses and misfires, Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) got his reward.

The Italian powerhouse launched from the wheel of his lead-out, bossing the chaotic final sprint to cross the line more than a bike length ahead of Giovanni Lonardi (Polti VisitMalta) and Paul Penhoët (Groupama-FDJ). It was a massive sigh of relief for Lidl-Trek, salvaging a desperately needed sprint victory on the very last day of the race.

Away from the hectic sprint finale, Jonas Vingegaard and his Team Visma-Lease a Bike squad coasted across the finish line six-abreast. The 29-year-old Dane officially claimed the maglia rosa, completing a historic trilogy as only the eighth male rider in history to win all three of cycling’s Grand Tours.

Vingegaard’s dominance over the past three weeks was absolute. He won five mountaintop finishes and ended the race with a 5’22” advantage over Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM), with Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) rounding out the podium at 6:25 down.

Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) successfully defended the cyclamen points jersey, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) takes home the blue climbers’ jersey, and Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) secures the white jersey as the race’s best young rider.
