The inevitable happened. Stage 7 served up the brutal, unforgiving slopes of the Blockhaus, and Jonas Vingegaard used the mountain to remind the peloton why he is the man to beat.
Visma controlled the stage from the start. They kept the breakaway on a tight leash, delivering Vingegaard to the base of the Blockhaus. Once the road tilted toward the sky, the yellow and black train went to work. Davide Piganzoli and Sepp Kuss put in efforts that shattered the peloton, setting the launchpad for their leader.
When Vingegaard accelerated, the race for the stage win looked over. Felix Gall and Giulio Pellizzari attempted to hold the Dane’s wheel, but Vingegaard soloed away uncontested.
Vingegaard becomes the 115th rider to win a stage in all three Grand Tours. And for Visma Lease a Bike, it’s now fifteen consecutive Grand Tours with at least one stage win.
