Winning Stage 9 wasn’t Visma Lease a Bike’s initial plan. But when the peloton hit the final climb, the breakaway dissolved. Felix Gall launched a massive acceleration, isolating Vingegaard from the GC group. The Dane locked onto his wheel, and the duo bridged across to swallow up the final breakaway survivor, Giulio Ciccone.

On the steepest final kilometers, Vingegaard launched a seated attack that Gall could not answer. He soloed to his second stage win of this Giro and the 50th professional victory of his career. Visma teammate Davide Piganzoli rode away from the shattered GC group to claim third.

Vingegaard continues to slash his General Classification deficit. The peloton heads into Monday’s rest day before a crucial Tuesday time trial.
