Filippo Ganna made sure the Giro d’Italia got off to a perfect start for the Grenadiers with victory in the opening time trial.
The Italian was unbeatable on the streets of Turin, setting a blistering pace to go 10 seconds quicker than anyone else in the short opening stage.
The result saw Ganna mirror his result from the 2020 edition, pulling on the maglia rosa to kick-start the event in style.
Egan Bernal and Pavel Sivakov also got their general classification challenges off to a good start, slotting in amongst the overall contenders after an early chance to open up the legs. Sivakov was 32nd on the day, with Bernal 40th.
Gianni Moscon set a very impressive 10th fastest time, while Jonathan Castroviejo was the fastest of the early runners, eventually finishing 13th on the time sheets.
