2024 Giro d’Italia Stage 14 | Highlights

Report

On a remarkable day in Italy, Filippo Ganna delivered a masterclass in time-trialling to secure victory in Stage 14’s 31-kilometer time trial of the Giro d’Italia. The Italian powerhouse set the fastest times at both the first and second time checks, ultimately finishing ahead of his teammate Tobias Foss, who took second place.

Ganna’s dominance was evident from the outset as he tore through the course, setting a blistering pace that proved unbeatable. Despite a lengthy wait as other strong contenders completed their runs, none could challenge Ganna’s time. Magnus Sheffield came close, but an unfortunate crash ended his bid for the top spot. Despite this setback, Sheffield remounted and finished 12th overall.

Geraint Thomas and Thymen Arensman, both vying for general classification positions, also put in stellar performances. Thomas finished fourth, reclaiming second place overall in the GC, while Arensman secured third on the day, moving up to sixth in the overall standings.

The confirmation of Ganna’s win came as Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) finished second, 29 seconds behind the Italian, solidifying Ganna’s victory.
