Report
Brandon McNulty of UAE Team Emirates secured a remarkable hat-trick of victories at the UAE Tour by storming to first place in the Individual Time Trial (ITT) held at Al Hudayriyat Island. The American rider displayed an impressive performance, clocking a time of 13 minutes and 27 seconds over the 12.1-kilometer course, setting a blistering pace that none could match.
McNulty was closely followed by his teammates Jay Vine and Mikkel Bjerg, who finished just 2 and 4 seconds behind him, respectively. This dominant display by UAE Team Emirates saw them claim the top three spots on the podium, further solidifying their position in the race.
The success of the team was attributed to the strategic decision of their sports directors, who wisely scheduled the start of the three riders early in the day when course conditions were most favorable. Riding at an astonishing speed of 53.9788 km/h, McNulty showcased his exceptional time trial abilities and emerged victorious.
Reflecting on his performance, McNulty expressed satisfaction with his achievement and credited the team’s approach for their collective success. “The team decided to prioritize our best time trialists early in the starting order, and it paid off,” he commented. “I’m pleased with my performance and achieving the win in the time trial was my main goal. It’s fantastic to see three of our teammates on the podium.”
Looking ahead to the challenges of Stage 3, which will feature a demanding summit finish at Jebel Jais, McNulty remained confident in the team’s capabilities. “Tomorrow’s stage will be tough, especially with the challenging climb, but we have strong climbers in our team, and we are optimistic about our chances,” he remarked.
With McNulty now leading the UAE Tour ahead of his teammates Vine and Bjerg, UAE Team Emirates will aim to maintain their momentum as they tackle the upcoming stages of the race.
