Wout van Aert profited from a flawless leadout from his Team Visma | Lease a Bike teammates to claim a convincing sprint victory on Stage 5 of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The 195.8-kilometer transition stage to Villars-les-Dombes was tightly controlled from the gun, with Visma and the other sprinter squads actively shutting down early breakaway attempts to keep the time gaps manageable over the rolling terrain.
As the peloton hit a hectic finale, Bruno Armirail and the rest of the Visma train kept their composure at the front, delivering the Belgian star into optimal position with only a few kilometers remaining. Van Aert unleashed a powerful acceleration to comfortably finish off the teamwork, securing an important confidence boost as the race heads deeper into the mountains. Visma | Lease a Bike preserves its dominant grip on the week after already securing the Stage 3 team time trial, while EF Education-EasyPost’s Alex Baudin finished safely in the pack to retain the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
