Watch: 2022 Triathlon of Portocolom Preview

The Triathlon of Portocolom, which will take on the 10th of April, is traditionally one of the first triathlons in the calendar year and the “unofficial” date which opens the season in Europe. Year after year, it is the best rated triathlon in the Balearic Islands by the athletes themselves, due to many reasons such as the great atmosphere and high quality of the setting of the race, its original format and the spectacular courses with a swimming part in the impressive port of Portocolom, thedouble climb to Sant Salvador in the cycling course and thestunning run course through the historic center and passing the iconic lighthouse and finish in the Nautical Club by the sea.

This is a first level, professionally organized sports event with the spirit of the first locals practicing triathlon in the islands. It has developed through the years to create and offer a unique experience for a limited number of participants (600)  to ensure the highest satisfaction, safety and the best services for the triathletes. In 2022 the race will celebrate 24 years.

One of the highlights of the Portocolom Triathlon is the distances format, halfway between a long distance and an Olympic distance triathlon. It is the perfect start to the preseason and training for longer distance challenges. Swimming of only 500 m or 1 kilometer, facilitates the participation of cyclists or runners who want to try their first triathlon or triathletes who train to increase the usual distance of their competitions. On the other hand, the demanding 100km cycling course is perfect for training for long distance races because it also has a hard profile, while the final 10km running part helps for a fast recovery after the race, allowing the participants to continue with training a few days after the event.

One of the biggest attractions of the race is the double climb to Sant Salvador with the beautiful and demanding ascent of 494 meters to this mythical peak known to cyclists from all over Europe.  There is the possibility of choosing between two distances: 55.5 or 111. The 111 participants will complete the cycling course twice while those of 55.5 will only take one loop. Swimming is 500 or 1,000 meters, while the running part is 5 or 10 kilometers. The 5 or 10 km of the running race are unforgettable, starting from the historical center of this typical Mediterranean village, going through some of the most beautiful beaches in the area and to the iconic lighthouse, returning to the finish line located in the Club Nautic surrounded with lots of supporters cheering and by the boats docked in the area.

The next edition of Triathlon of Portocolom will again be unforgettable!
