The Sibiu Tour began, and the season resumed, with a short 2.5km Prologue through technical, cobbled streets. It was a victory for… well, a whole bunch of lads with truly excellent names. We had Kacper. And we had Iustin. But in first place was Nikodemus Holler. He started early and set a strong time, then torrential rain rolled in and rendered the technical course incredibly difficult to navigate. That’s not to credit Holler’s victory to the weather. It was a fantastic ride, and the biggest win of his career so far. Top Ten 1Nikodemus Holler (Ger) BikeAid0:03:352Kacper Walkowiak (Pol) CCC…

The Sibiu Tour has a new role this year – it’s the first true race back since the sport went on hiatus. And it’s a good year for the race to have found extra importance: this will be its tenth edition. The race takes place in and around the city of Sibiu, encompassing a variety of terrain over its five stages. Curiously, there’s never been a repeat winner of the race – Davide Rebellin and Egan Bernal are probably the highest-profile winners so far, taking their respective wins at the polar opposite ends of their careers. When is It There…

Hey, it’s one we used to broadcast. Is their portmanteau of “cycling” and “classics” charming, or super cringe? It’s kind of Euro-cringe, which might make it cool in the US. A linguistic mullet. Anyway, the Cyclassics Hamburg is canceled due to COVID-19. That’s really too bad. It’s a sprinter’s race that’s been on the calendar for 24 years without interruption, a remarkable run for a race that you basically only need to watch the last five minutes of unless you’re planning on writing a detailed report. Despite the cancelation, it’ll return next year in its usual August time slot. Here’s…
CCC Team today confirmed its revised race calendar for the remainder of the 2020 season starting with Vuelta a Burgos and featuring a triple race program in August. A busy schedule in early August will be key for CCC Team’s riders to put the finishing touches on their extended training block, Sporting Manager Stever Bauer said. “We are now two weeks out from Vuelta a Burgos so we are very much at the business end of our race preparations. We have 16 riders currently training at altitude in Livigno ahead of our return to racing at the end of the…
Alberto Contador has become the latest cyclist to set a new Everesting record. We still don’t officially sanction this competition at Cyclry HQ, but if someone was going to do it, it was going to be the Spanish climber. He did it as part of a publicity stunt for his new bike company with a terrible name, Abikes. “We wanted to test some materials and also check their behavior in very specific environments, hence the boundary. […]When we downloaded and compared the data, from the Everesting challenge website we were confirmed that the challenge had been overcome.” As far as…
INEOS and Israel Start-Up Nation have confirmed that some of the rumors were true: Chris Froome will leave INEOS at the end of the season when his contract expires and move to Israel SUN. Speculation was abound that Froome would move on from INEOS before the Tour de France in order to be sole leader as he pursues a fifth overall win that would equal the records set by Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Indurain. That speculation was only half-right. Froome will remain at INEOS for this year’s Tour, before moving on to his new team. But…
BOGOTA (Reuters) – Former Giro d’Italia winner Nairo Quintana said he had not suffered any serious injuries after being hit by a car during training in Colombia on Friday. The 30-year-old Colombian, who won the Giro in 2014, the Vuelta in 2016 and twice finished runner-up on the Tour de France, was knocked down by a car that overtook him and his support team. His Arkea-Samsic team feared a possible knee injury but Quintana said he had grazed his left arm and hurt his right knee and left leg. “I want to let you know that I am good,” a smiling…
