Martijn Tusveld sustains shoulder fracture and concussion at Tour de la Provence
On the second stage of Tour de la Provence, Team Sunweb’s Martijn Tusveld suffered a crash which forced him to abandon the race. X-rays taken at the hospital revealed Tusveld to have sustained a shoulder fracture and a concussion, which will sideline him for the upcoming month.
Team Sunweb physician Camiel Aldershof said: “The fracture looks currently to be in a good position and we will continue to monitor that in the upcoming weeks to ensure the situation remains the same. His concussion also means that for the meantime Martijn will need to take complete rest. We will assess his return to the rollers and racing in due course.”
Martijn said: “I’m really disappointed to crash out like this, especially after just getting back on track and a good off season. Hopefully, the recovery goes quickly and well and I can be back in action soon enough but until then I’ll focus on taking it easy with plenty of rest.”
