The longest-running team in the peloton has secured backing from a Chinese maritime tech giant. Because if anyone knows about navigating stormy waters, it’s Eusebio Unzué.
The Movistar Team has been around since 1980. They have survived economic crashes, pandemics, and the mid-2000s Euromullet boom. How? By finding sponsors in places nobody else thinks to look.
Today, the Spanish squad announced a new “green journey” partnership with ContiOcean Environment Tech Group Co., Ltd. (2613.HK). They included that combination of numbers and letters but we don’t know what they mean.

Who are ContiOcean?
If you are not an avid reader of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Daily, you might be forgiven for not knowing them.
Headquartered in Shanghai, ContiOcean is a global provider of “maritime ESG solutions.” In plain English, they make technology that helps massive ships pollute less. Their company motto is “Propel Green Energy, Protect Blue Planet.”
While the press release is heavy on corporate poetry—citing a “shared commitment to innovation, responsibility, and positive impact”—the reality is simple: Sustainable tech is big business, and cycling is the billboard of choice for companies wanting to look green.
ContiOcean developed solutions to help the maritime industry transition to low-carbon models. Movistar rides bikes, which are the original low-carbon model. It’s a match made in ESG heaven.
