Movistar Team and Gobik Unveil ‘Iceberg’ Kit for 2023 Tour de France

Movistar Team, in collaboration with Gobik and Telefónica, is thrilled to announce the launch of the ‘Iceberg’ cycling collection for the upcoming 2023 Tour de France. The 15 riders representing Movistar Team in the prestigious race will proudly wear the ‘Iceberg’ kit during the Tour’s ‘Grands Départs’ in Bilbao and Clermont-Ferrand. This innovative collection embodies technical performance, sustainability, unique design, and a commitment to ocean protection.

The ‘Iceberg’ kit embraces four primary objectives: enhancing technical performance through cutting-edge clothing technologies, promoting sustainability in production through the use of new materials and processes, presenting the Movistar Team with a distinctive and forward-thinking design for the 2023 season’s most prominent stage, and raising social awareness to protect our oceans.

The ‘Iceberg’ kit features a predominantly white tone, complemented by blue details inspired by the team’s existing kit design. The bib shorts incorporate white stitching, symbolizing the blocks of ice found in the ocean, which are endangered due to the climate emergency. The Movistar Team, Gobik, and Telefónica are using the ‘Iceberg’ kit as a platform to voice their opposition to this threat.

In a remarkable sustainability initiative, the garments of the ‘Iceberg’ kit are made from fabrics composed of at least 60% recycled plastic, including bottles, fishing nets, and production surpluses. This makes the ‘Iceberg’ collection the most environmentally friendly kit ever worn by a team in the Tour de France. The creation of the ‘Iceberg’ kit aligns with Gobik’s ‘Ride to Cut’ project, further promoting sustainability within the cycling industry.

The ‘Iceberg’ kit incorporates advanced features such as heat reflection, improved UV protection, and enhanced visibility on the road, benefiting both riders and customers. The garments were meticulously developed at Gobik’s production facility in Yecla, Murcia (Spain), with a strong commitment to minimizing environmental, social, and economic impact.

To support ocean conservation efforts, the Movistar Team will sign and auction off the kits worn during the Tour de France. The proceeds from this auction will be directed towards international funds and programs dedicated to preserving the oceans. The team encourages its fans to participate and contribute to these campaigns. Further details about the auction and how to contribute will be announced in the days leading up to the Tour.

The Movistar Team, Gobik, and Telefónica are excited to showcase the ‘Iceberg’ kit at the 2023 Tour de France, demonstrating their dedication to performance, sustainability, design innovation, and environmental responsibility. This collaboration sets a new standard for cycling apparel while championing the cause of ocean protection.
