NCL Puts the Brakes on 2024 Season, Gears Up for 2025 Comeback
The National Cycling League (NCL) has announced it’s hitting pause on its 2024 season, shifting gears to focus on a triumphant return in 2025.
The decision to park the 2024 plans comes as NCL aims to overhaul its operations and revamp its strategy to navigate the choppy waters of the cycling industry. With economic hurdles looming large, the league is taking a pit stop to fine-tune its approach before hitting the road again.
Reed McCalvin, the VP of Operations and Teams at NCL, told us, “Pausing our 2024 plans affects more folks than a lost pair of bike shorts, but fear not! We’re working tirelessly to ensure everyone’s wheels keep spinning smoothly through 2024, setting the stage for a grand comeback in 2025.” Alright, that’s not a direct quote. Nobody sue us.
The 2024 season was slated to witness the showdown of three co-ed titans: the Miami Nights, the Denver Disruptors, and the Atlanta Rise. These teams were gearing up to tear through the asphalt in pursuit of the coveted 2024 NCL Cup, with a packed domestic race calendar awaiting their tire tracks.
But alas, fans will have to wait a little longer to witness the thrill of wheel-to-wheel combat, as the crit races that electrified Miami Beach, Denver, and Atlanta in 2023 won’t be making a return in 2024.
Andrea Pagnanelli, NCL’s CEO, remarked, “Our ambition has always been to elevate the domestic cycling scene, but even the best riders know when to adjust their saddle. By hitting the brakes on 2024, we’re ensuring a smoother ride to our ultimate goal of cycling greatness.” Again, not an exact quote.
So, while 2024 might see a temporary lull in NCL’s adrenaline-pumping action, rest assured, folks, because when 2025 rolls around, the league will be back on the saddle, ready to pedal its way into the annals of cycling history. Until then, let’s keep those wheels turning and those gears grinding, because the road to glory is paved with determination, detours, and maybe a few tire punctures along the way.
