Sibiu Tour 2020

The Sibiu Tour has a new role this year – it’s the first true race back since the sport went on hiatus. And it’s a good year for the race to have found extra importance: this will be its tenth edition.

The race takes place in and around the city of Sibiu, encompassing a variety of terrain over its five stages. Curiously, there’s never been a repeat winner of the race – Davide Rebellin and Egan Bernal are probably the highest-profile winners so far, taking their respective wins at the polar opposite ends of their careers.

When is It

There are five stages over four days, from July 23-26. Time zones are local (UTC+3).

How Can I Watch?

There are three ways to watch, all free:

The Course

The course has something for everyone. The opening time-trial prologue is 4.5km and pan-flat. Stage One makes its GC case with a summit finish on the 2040m Balea Lac. Stage Three-A is a 12km long hill climb ITT. And Stage Three-B is a labyrinthine circuit that evokes the most complex of British Premier Calendar rounds.

The Favorites

We don’t have a clue. But Gianni Savio’s Androni Giocattoli–Sidermec have won the last three editions. They’re still claiming to be riding this year’s edition, even though they’re not on the official website yet, so let’s bet on them to either win it again or not show up at all.
