Urán’s Farewell Tour: Riding into the Sunset after Paris Olympics
Rigoberto Urán’s planning to retire after the 2024 Olympics. Yeah, the Colombian press dug up the dirt during his visit to a football club in Medellín. You know, he got asked about retirement, and it was like, “I’m giving it another year, Olympics, then ‘ciao’ – goodbye.”
Now, Urán’s no small fry in the Grand Tour biz. He’s been up there, started peeping into the top 10 in the Giro d’Italia way back in 2012. He even did the whole podium thing – you know, back in 2013 and 2014, hanging out behind some pretty big names like Nibali and Quintana. Even gave Chris Froome a run for his money in the 2017 Tour de France. And get this, last year, he wrapped up the Vuelta in the top 10. That’s a serious track record!
Thing is, he was kinda flirting with the idea of retirement last year. I guess that’s just when his contract with EF Education-EasyPost was up. But, the old fella signed on for another tour, bringing his time on the bike to a whopping 18 seasons.
Colombia’s wild about him. I mean, they got a telenovela playing about his life. That’s something, huh? Starring Juan Pablo Urrego. Quite the show, I bet.
He’s pumped up about these last rides, you know. Wants to keep rocking that podium life. His words last year were all about giving it his all for the podium – pushing to score big at these Grand Tours. He’s in it for the team, for the race, for the love of that shiny top three. Gotta admire the guy’s spirit – riding off into the sunset after one last dance at the Olympics in Paris. That’s a champ’s exit, don’t you think?
