She’s the queen of TikTok. Now, she’s the queen of Paris-Roubaix.
Alison Jackson won the third running of the Paris-Roubaix Femmes on Saturday after joining the early breakaway and pushing it through the clutches of the chasing group. By the time they made the right turn into the velodrome the Canadian racer was positioned perfectly, on second wheel.
By the time the sprint unfolded the writing was on the wall, and the racer who dances on TikTok would soon dance on the storied infield of the Roubaix Velodrome.
“It’s a dream come true…. I dream of winning. A lot of times all those dreams have stayed dreams. It’s unreal to make it happen in real life. I have few words.”
When it seemed as if the break would be caught, Jackson rode. She took pull after pull, dragging the break on as the favorites chased feverishly behind.
“Either you don’t ride and you lose the race or you ride hard and you have a chance. I trusted myself and my passion an heart and it turned out with a win,” she said. “I wanted to be part of the action; I wanted to be ahead of the race. Our team has been waiting and it hasn’t been working. Because we had rain it was going to be slick out there. In a race like this you need to avoid back luck. When the move went, I was waiting and available and wanted to ride it.”
She lifted the giant cobblestone, given to the winner of the sport’s most storied one-day race, high. And on the podium, she danced.
