2024 Criterium Dauphine Stage 7 | Highlights

Report

Déjà vu struck the Critérium du Dauphiné as Primož Roglič claimed victory in another mountain-top finish, this time at the ski resort of Samoëns 1600. Roglič’s back-to-back wins, supported by a formidable team effort, saw him best Matteo Jorgenson in a sprint to the line. This triumph extends Roglič’s lead in the General Classification to 1:02 minutes after seven stages, with Aleks Vlasov holding fourth place ahead of the final day.

Roglič’s win on the queen stage solidified his dominance, as he also took the points classification lead and the best climber’s jersey. BORA – hansgrohe currently tops the team classification, showcasing their all-around strength.

“Today we were not focused on winning the stage. You still have to take control from kilometre zero and all my teammates did that. Every single one of them! All the guys did a great job. My focus was to stay safe, but it wasn’t easy with the conditions. However, in the end, I had the legs to finish the job. Tomorrow is another super hard day,” said Roglič.

BORA – hansgrohe meticulously controlled the peloton, maintaining a constant gap to the large leading group. With 45 kilometers remaining, Marc Soler embarked on a solo breakaway, holding a lead of over four minutes at the start of the final 10-kilometer climb. Nico Denz, Marco Haller, and Bob Jungels worked tirelessly for 140 kilometers before Matteo Sobrero and Jai Hindley ramped up the pace on the climb’s first half.

As the finish approached, Aleks Vlasov halved Soler’s lead, catching him with 600 meters to go. Roglič then launched his sprint with 250 meters remaining, clinching the stage win while donning the yellow jersey.

Roglič’s stellar performance not only reinforced his position as the race leader but also showcased BORA – hansgrohe’s strategic prowess and team strength, setting the stage for an intense final day of the Dauphiné.
