2024 Tro Bro Leon | Highlights
Report
Arnaud De Lie emerged victorious at the Tro Bro Leon after an extraordinary race. Despite encountering two flat tires, the Lotto Dstny leader showcased his resilience and skill, ultimately securing the coveted victory in Brittany.
Similar to the proverbial cat with multiple lives, De Lie faced adversity during the race. The Strade Bianche’s French counterpart, featuring 29 gravel sectors, initially dealt him a blow when he suffered a flat tire as the peloton accelerated. Another flat tire occurred 30 kilometers from the finish. However, De Lie remained composed, thanks to the strong teamwork of his Lotto Dstny teammates, who helped him return to the front of the race. Undeterred, De Lie launched another attack, initially accompanied by Riley Sheehan (Israel-Premier Tech) and Pierre Gautherat (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), before being joined by a small group.
In the end, no one could match De Lie’s sprint, propelling him to victory after finishing second in the Grand Prix du Morbihan the previous day. Clément Venturini (Arkéa – B&B Hotels) secured second place, with Gautherat finishing third. “This victory brings me immense joy,” expressed a relieved De Lie at the finish line. “Despite the challenges we faced, both myself and the team remained composed with each setback. I felt in excellent form and attempted to launch another attack towards the end. Although it didn’t go exactly as planned, I maintained my composure during the sprint and avoided repeating last year’s mistake of going too early.”
Traditionally, the fastest Breton in the Tro Bro Leon receives a live piglet as a prize. This year, the organizer also promised one to De Lie, ensuring a piglet will soon join him on his farm in Lescheret. “I had my sights set on this,” De Lie chuckled. “But more importantly, I am thrilled with my strong form. Following my victory in Famenne last week and second place yesterday, winning the Tro Bro Leon confirms my gratitude towards my team for their hard work.”
