2024 Vuelta a Espana Stage 10 | Highlights

Report

Wout van Aert claimed his third stage victory in the Vuelta a España, showcasing his attacking prowess throughout the tenth stage. The Belgian rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike spent the entire day in the breakaway, ultimately raising his arms in triumph and strengthening his lead in the points classification.

From the start, Van Aert was determined to attack. Although his first attempt was neutralized before the first climb, he persisted and succeeded with his second attack. Joined by four other riders, the group worked well together, staying ahead of the peloton. Van Aert picked up twenty points in the intermediate sprint and continued to push on, with only Quentin Pacher able to follow.

On the final climb, the duo extended their lead over the chasers to more than a minute. After a 20-kilometer descent, Van Aert launched his sprint and secured the stage victory, marking his fifth win of the season and the 30th victory for his team in 2024.

Reflecting on his win, Van Aert said, “It was the plan to get into the breakaway today. I struggled quite a bit on the first climb of the day. I almost thought about letting go, but I wanted to make one last-ditch effort. I think that tough opening phase worked in my favor today. I’m glad I was able to finish it off. I feel great right now. I have the feeling that I can handle these tough stages again.”

Van Aert also shared the joy of winning with his family present, adding, “It doesn’t happen often that I win when my family is present. That makes today’s victory extra special. Their presence definitely gives me wings.”
