2024 Vuelta a Espana Stage 11 | Highlights

Report

Eddie Dunbar delivered an emotional and strategic victory on stage 11 of the Vuelta a España, making a decisive late attack from a breakaway to claim his first-ever Grand Tour stage win in Padrón.

Dunbar, part of a 38-rider group that formed after an aggressive start, made his move in the final 600 meters, surprising his rivals and securing the win. His teammate Filippo Zana played a crucial role by following a dangerous move on the last climb, allowing Dunbar to stay composed in the group behind.

Reflecting on his victory, Dunbar said, “It’s weird how it goes sometimes. I had a really bad start to the race, and I lost a lot of time. I came here to ride GC and I learned pretty quick that I didn’t have the legs to do it. My preparation was really good coming into here so it was a case of reassessing and going for a stage, and today an opportunity came that I didn’t expect.”

Dunbar’s experience and tactical acumen shone through as he timed his attack perfectly, taking advantage of the moment when other riders hesitated. His victory is a testament to his resilience and determination, marking a significant milestone in his career.

This win is a much-deserved reward for Dunbar after a challenging season, and it highlights the strength and strategy of Team Jayco Alula.
