Report
Wout van Aert claimed a significant victory in the third stage of the Vuelta a España, sprinting to his tenth career stage win in a Grand Tour. The 29-year-old Belgian, wearing the red leader’s jersey, showcased his strength and determination on the final day of racing on Portuguese soil.
Reflecting on his win, Van Aert said, “This win feels great. It took a while before I could cheer again, but my patience was rewarded today. The emotional release after the finish was great. I missed the taste of victory.”
The stage saw Team Visma | Lease a Bike, led by a strong Robert Gesink, take control in the peloton, chasing down four early escapees. Van Aert, confident in his form, started his sprint early and convincingly secured the win.
Van Aert’s last victory was in February at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. A crash in Dwars door Vlaanderen ended his spring season early, but after a long rehabilitation, he has returned to top form. “This is where I belong,” Van Aert concluded. “I race to win. I came to this Vuelta with enormous motivation. I was keen to win a stage and today is the day. This result makes me very happy.”
Van Aert’s victory is a testament to his resilience and determination, marking a triumphant return to form and a significant milestone in his career.
