2024 Vuelta a Espana Stage 4 | Highlights

Report

Primož Roglič celebrated his 13th stage win in the Vuelta a España with a commanding performance on the steep climb to Pico Villuercas. The Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe leader not only secured the stage victory but also took the red jersey of the overall leader.

Throughout the day, Roglič’s team controlled the breakaway for over 100 kilometers in scorching temperatures nearing 40 degrees. Their efforts paid off on the final climb, where Roglič led a small group of riders, fending off all attacks and winning in a photo finish.

After four stages, Roglič leads the general classification by eight seconds. Aleks Vlasov is in 10th place, one minute behind, and Florian Lipowitz is 20th.

Reflecting on his win, Roglič said, “Taking Red was not the main objective of today. But when you see the guys riding hard in this heat, I had no choice. They did a real good job, and I’m happy that I had the legs and that I was able to finish it off. It was a tough finish, it was steep. The goal will remain the same: we’ll take it day by day. We’ll see how I’ll go, how my body will react.”

Roglič’s victory underscores his resilience and determination, marking a significant milestone in his Vuelta a España campaign.
