The UCI Cycling Esports World Championships Starts Tomorrow

Do you care? Maybe, if you arrived here from a Google search. But we don’t care. Who’s the current UCI Cycling Esports World Champion? No idea. Is this actually the first edition? No idea.

But apparently we’re asking the wrong questions. Zwift says, “The big question is, how are you going to watch the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships?” The big answer is that we’re going to spend time with friends instead of watching people race bikes in a video game.

Anyway, the format goes like this: The men’s and women’s championships each start with a round featuring 100 racers. The top thirty advance to round two. The top ten make it into the final. And the top one in the final, presumably, wins the medal. Each race is 20 minutes long, so it should be some fun, fast racing.

It all starts at 6pm UTC on February 18. If you’re interested in watching, it’s on Zwift’s YouTube channel. It’s also on GCN and all those other places that employ people we used to work with.
