Dave Brailsford Leaves INEOS
Sir Dave Brailsford, the architect behind Team Sky’s and Ineos Grenadiers’ unparalleled success, has decided to step back from his role as the team principal. This news comes amidst a significant restructuring of Ineos Grenadiers, marking a new chapter for the team.
At 59, Brailsford remains an influential figure, transitioning into the position of Ineos’ director of sport. Which is a role that encompasses more than cycling. While he will still wield influence over the cycling team, he has relinquished the title of team principal.
Brailsford’s legacy at Team Sky, later Ineos Grenadiers, is illustrious. Since the squad’s inception in 2010, he played a central role in securing victories at seven Tours de France, two Vueltas a España, and three Giri d’Italia. His leadership was instrumental in propelling British Cycling and Team Sky/Ineos to the pinnacle of global cycling.
Now he’s joining Manchester United as their head of something something, probably has the words “sport performance” in there.
This, unfortunately, tarnishes his entire reputation. Yes, more than all the doping accusations. See, Cyclry is heavily Liverpool FC focused, which means Brailsford’s new job is objectively the worst thing he’s ever done. (ed’s note: remember to look up meaning of ‘objectively’ before hitting publish.)
He does seem a good fit. Manchester United is rotten the whole way through, a sloppy organization from head to toe. If anything, the managers who’ve taken the brunt of the criticism never truly stood a chance. If Sir Dave works his magic, that could all change.
But, as we mentioned, we’re Liverpool fans. So we hope he crashes and burns in his new role. Sorry Dave. Cyclry can have a little Man Utd relegation as a treat?
