Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL to Auction Worn, Signed Rider Jerseys
Way back in the futuristic year 2000, we were working at the World Track Championships in Manchester. Faced with an empty velodrome during one of the lulls, we snuck over to the “race worn” David Millar yellow jersey from the Tour de France, opened its case, and sniffed the armpits to check if it was really worn.
And let us tell you, we won’t be doing that again. We’d advise you to never sniff a race-worn jersey’s armpit.
HOWEVER, if you’d prefer to ignore our sage advice, there’s a new opportunity to enjoy the putrid aromas of athlete sweat: Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL have partnered with MatchWornShirt to auction worn, signed rider jerseys to the highest bidder.
The first live auction will be for the barely-dry Nalini jerseys from this weekend’s Paris-Roubaix.
Collector? Pervert? This is your moment.
And if shirts aren’t your thing, there will be used in action 2023 SCOTT team bikes, helmets, DRIIVE eyewear. There will also be “experiences,” which presumably means riding in a team car or something.
But no shorts. Society isn’t ready for worn cycling shorts auctions. Except on the dark web.
