Dutch champion Dylan Groenewegen delivered an emotional and hard-fought victory for Team Jayco AlUla on stage six of the Tour de France, outpacing the world’s top sprinters in Dijon. This marks the 31-year-old’s sixth career stage win and his first in the Dutch national champion’s jersey, which he claimed last month.

The stage, characterized by its flat terrain, saw the peloton maintain a relatively easy pace for most of the day. However, crosswinds introduced tension and briefly split the group. Despite these challenges, the race regrouped, setting the stage for a dramatic sprint finish.

In the final moments, Groenewegen, positioned perfectly by his team, unleashed his powerful sprint. The finish was so close that it required a photo finish to declare Groenewegen the winner over Jasper Philipsen. This victory is Team Jayco AlUla’s 19th of the season.

Reflecting on his win, Groenewegen said, “It was really close in the end. I know the legs were really good, I know I have a really strong team, but there are other strong sprinters. Yesterday, Mark Cavendish was really strong and today Jasper Philipsen was really hard to beat, but in the end, we got the victory, which is really important for us.”

Matt White, Director of High Performance and Racing, praised the team’s patience and Groenewegen’s speed, noting, “It’s hard to win here, it’s never easy to win. A lot of your year is judged on these three weeks and to get a win in the can so early is great. There are more sprint opportunities to come and opportunities for other riders.”

Groenewegen’s triumph underscores his exceptional sprinting ability and the strategic prowess of Team Jayco AlUla, setting a promising tone for the stages ahead.
