Report
Primož Roglič added another impressive chapter to his Grand Tour history with his second stage win in the Vuelta a España, marking his 21st career stage victory in one of the three Grand Tours. The focus today was not just on records but on gaining crucial seconds in the overall standings.
Over the past two days, Roglič has reduced the gap to the current leader, Ben O’Connor, by almost a minute. He remains in second place overall, now 3’49″ behind O’Connor. With this stage win, Roglič also takes the lead in the mountain classification and will start the next stage in the blue dotted jersey, adding another classification jersey to Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe’s collection for the 2024 Vuelta.
Reflecting on his win, Roglič said, “It was another tough day, the chance to win the stage was there and I took it. I was lucky to have the legs for it today. We’ll see how my body reacts to this effort. So we’ll enjoy the moment and try our best again tomorrow.”
Tomorrow’s ninth stage will be a significant challenge, leading through the Sierra Nevada with over 4500 meters of altitude gain, making it the toughest mountain stage in the first half of the Vuelta. Roglič’s performance will be crucial as he continues to chase the overall lead.
