LEOMO Begins Selling Revolutionary Type-S Sports Computer

LEOMO, Inc., a leading international technology and sports innovation brand, proudly releases its revolutionary TYPE-S sports performance computer with advanced motion analysis capabilities. Launched with a successful Kickstarter campaign, TYPE-S will be officially unveiled at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 7-9 in Las Vegas.

Geared toward serious athletes who appreciate precise training, TYPE-S is the first consumer device that harnesses the power of motion analytics. Utilizing LEOMO’s proprietary Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) motion-tracking sensors, sport-specific Motion Performance Indicators (MPI) and customizable app interface, TYPE-S can provide a detailed, data-driven understanding of athletic form, function and performance for cyclists, runners, triathletes, skiers and weight training athletes.

TYPE-S also has access to the Google Play store, making it possible for athletes to use their favorite apps, upload workouts, listen to music and download maps to further enhance their training and racing experiences. TYPE-S runs on the Android 9.0 operating system, which allows it to combine the intuitive functionality of a sports computer with the convenience of a phone. Wi-Fi connectivity and integration of a Nano SIM card provide the ability to stay connected wherever you go via 2G/3G/LTE connectivity.

With its ability to track training data and performance output in real-time, send emails and texts, make phone calls, browse the internet, access GPS maps, shoot photos and videos and use third-party apps, TYPE-S can do it all.

“TYPE-S is a revolutionary device with leading-edge technology that take sports analytics to the next level,” said Kunihiko Kaji, CEO, and co-founder of LEOMO Inc. “We are in search of hardware manufacturers and app developers that we can collaborate with in order to continually provide serious athletes the next level of performance improvement.”

Since its inception in 2012, LEOMO has been committed to bringing the most accurate and actionable motion data to help athletes and their coaches surpass their limits and achieve new milestones. LEOMO has conducted performance assessments on thousands of cyclists, runners, triathletes and weight training athletes using its motion-tracking technology. The brand’s other products include TYPE-R and Live Video Sync (LVS), which brought motion analytics out of the laboratory and into the real world for bike-fitters, coaches and researchers.

LEOMO has already developed designated MPIs for cycling, allowing for sport-specific functional movement assessments and individualized baseline performance metrics and motion parameters. The company has relationships with numerous elite athletes, coaches and organizations in several sports, including Australian cyclist Adam Hansen, international cycling coach Sebastian Weber and several professional cycling teams.

The company has just started collaboration with Kenyan running coach Timo Limo and Netherlands athletics agency Volare Sports to accelerate the development of running MPIs and the protocol for running form analysis. In March, LEOMO will unveil cutting-edge MPIs, allowing runners of all ability levels to quantify their gait patterns and understand necessary changes to improve running economy, stability, speed and endurance, while also decreasing the chance for injury.

LEOMO is developing MPIs for additional sports and disciplines and is actively working with partners to provide advanced sports analytics to new and innovative applications.

Super smart but not supersized, TYPE-S provides a wide range of features all in an ultra-mobile connected device that’s about the size of a credit card and weighs just 110 grams. It features a 3-inch transflective display that provides immense clarity under strong sunshine and, with a IPX7 waterproof rating, it is ideal for any conditions and weather you encounter. A long-lasting battery with the option of an extendable battery cell can provide up to 18 hours of battery life.

With a TYPE-S unit, athletes can capture their most valuable data in one location. ANT+ and Bluetooth® sensor compatibility allow you to capture data and utilize power, cadence, speed, pace, heart rate, elevation, and more. TYPE-S syncs with up to five of LEOMO’s discrete rechargeable Bluetooth® Motion Sensors, each of which has a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer. The data captured from the sensors filters into MPIs which help the user quickly quantify and interpret their motion to cue necessary changes.

LEOMO understands the need for a reliable device because the data athletes are capturing on a day-to-day basis is invaluable. TYPE-S comes with two Bluetooth® chips to increase the reliability of data recorded and decrease the chance of data being dropped or sensors disconnecting. One chip allows for communication with general Bluetooth® devices (headphones, watches, power meters, etc.), while the second chip communicates solely with the LEOMO Motion Sensors.

“TYPE-S is a true game-changer for athletes because of the accurate digital feedback and insights it can provide,” said Adam Hansen, a professional cyclist with Team Lotto-Soudal and a 13-year World Tour veteran. “LEOMO’s motion-tracking technology allows riders to understand their body position, movement patterns and overall performance in real-time, providing digital insights to make subtle but significant changes that can improve efficiency, power and consistency.”

LEOMO’s TYPE-S is available in two performance packages: the advanced TYPE-S Sensor Kit Pro ($799) and TYPE-S Sensor Kit ($449)TYPE-S can be ordered directly from LEOMO’s online store or from Amazon UKAmazon GermanyAmazon SpainAmazon ItalyAmazon France and Amazon Australia. Products will begin shipping to customers on January 7 in US and Australia. For European customers, products will begin shipping on January 13.

The TYPE-S Sensor Kit Pro includes a main TYPE-S head unit, five advanced motion sensors for complete sports data analysis in real-time, one sensor charger, one sensor carrier, one USB charging cable for the sensors, two sensor clips and a package of sensor adhesives. The TYPE-S Sensor includes a main TYPE-S head unit, two motion sensors for limited real-time data analysis, one sensor charger, one sensor carrier, one USB charging cable for the sensors, two sensor clips and a package of sensor adhesives. Additional accessories and mounting attachments available for TYPE-S are sold separately.

TYPE-S was introduced via a successful Kickstarter campaign that closed on Nov. 1, 2019. During the two-month campaign, 130 backers supported the launch of the product, accumulating pledge funds 288 percent over the company’s stated launch goal.
