Movistar launches fan-designed jersey contest for charity
Blues to wear a jersey created by their fans for their return to competition; contest runs through April 26th, jersey also signed by team members and sent to the Spanish Red Cross, Italy’s Protezione Civile for relief fund against COVID-19
Movistar Team, Alé and Telefónica are setting up on Monday a charity initiative in which they look to involve all cycling fans against the coronavirus pandemic. The Blues’ fan base is invited to design the jersey the Telefónica-backed outfit will wear during their return to racing, with some of the jerseys to be signed by all members and delivered to the Spanish Red Cross and Italy’s Protezione Civile, with proceeds set to support those most affected by the consequences of the COVID-19 disease.
At the website alecycling.com/en/seguimos-conectados-ale, the fans will be able to download the template they will be asked to draw the jersey, with all techniques, manual or computer-based, being allowed (no sponsors can be drawn over). To take part, they only have to post a public Instagram feed picture, using the hashtag #SeguimosConectados and tagging @alecyclingofficial and @movistar_team. A jury made of members of Alé and the Movistar Team will select a shortlist of six drawings, from which the fans will be able to select the final design on April 24-26, also on Instagram, with their votes.
The design picked by the fans will be used by Alé, official technical partner of the squad, to craft the jersey the Movistar Team riders will use at a UCI WorldTour event following their return to racing. The winner will earn him/herself a kit with the new design. Some of those jerseys, signed by the full roster, will be sent to the Spanish Red Cross and Italy’s Protezione Civile for a relief fund for those struck by the consequences of coronavirus. The legal terms and participation formula of this contest will remain available here.
