Meilan announces… something… that might measure your cadence

Meilan is one of those rare companies that hits us up on our work email and we have to quietly move them over to the Cyclry ecosystem.

We’re actually not sure what their deal is. They manufacture a lot of gear that looked interesting enough for us to reply asking for a review unit, but all that happened was that they started sending us their cryptic press releases even more frequently.

Look: we’re open to off-brand cycling gear. Head units and sensors are pretty much still relegated to the AliExpress category, with even the most high-end gear barely approaching technology that would be acceptable in 2010 in any other industry. So we’re always paying attention to these unusual brands that are producing their own devices and selling them for the $100 it costs Garmin to make their head units.

Meilan are certainly doing this. But as we say, we don’t fully understand their deal. Are they B2B? We could totally go for buying a job lot of their head units and rebranding them with our logo. Or are they actually B2C with an extremely blasé comms strategy? No idea. And it almost seems mean to speculate, since they don’t really seem to have a US/UK presence and only send out emails in broken English.

ANYWAY, Donald at Meilan has emailed us about something they’re calling “Meilan Indoor Trainign Sensor C1 Speed&Cadence” [sic]. He’s included a rather exhaustive infographic:

If you scrolled this far, congrats. Did you notice that one of their head units is called the “Peak 420”? So cool. 10/10 for the name alone if they ever let us review it.
