Contador wrecks the Everesting record, apparently by accident
Alberto Contador has become the latest cyclist to set a new Everesting record. We still don’t officially sanction this competition at Cyclry HQ, but if someone was going to do it, it was going to be the Spanish climber.
He did it as part of a publicity stunt for his new bike company with a terrible name, Abikes. “We wanted to test some materials and also check their behavior in very specific environments, hence the boundary. […]When we downloaded and compared the data, from the Everesting challenge website we were confirmed that the challenge had been overcome.” As far as publicity stunts go, accidentally setting a new Everesting record is pretty hardcore.
Contador’s record is 7:27:20, two-and-a-half minutes faster than Lachlan Morton’s previous record, achieved with 78 ascents of the Silla Del Rey. Sounds like an absolutely horrible way to spend a day, but he did hit 98km/h on the descent, the mad man.
