Huge Garmin Edge 1030 Savings on Prime Day (and other deals)

Prime Day is here. Actually it’s two days — October 13 and 14 — but that just means more time to get deals. And more time to feel guilty for supporting Amazon.

There are huge deals on a wide range of stuff all across Amazon, but all the cycling stuff we’d received press releases for was exercise bikes and Fred nonsense. There was a big surprise in store though: Garmin’s (former) flagship bike computer has an enormous price reduction, and other Garmin devices are reduced too.

Garmin Edge 1030 (US Deal)

$599 $299 – Amazon US link (Edit: LOL, sold out already. Now $475)

Until recently, the Edge 1030 was considered the best bike computer you could own. The question wasn’t so much “what can it do?” but “do I need it to do this much?” It did everything, and the only caveat was its huge price – it’s the first head unit to have cyclists arguing that you were paying for features you’d never need since, well, since Garmin first tried to convince us we needed GPS head units.

Remember that “until recently?” Garmin released the smaller Edge 530 and Edge 830 devices last year for $299 and $399 respectively, and packed the Edge 1030’s feature set in there (more or less). In fact, the Edge 1030, as the flagship model, actually got an update to bring its features up to the level of the 530 and 830. Then, earlier this year, Garmin launched the Edge 1030 Plus.

So where does the Edge 1030 sit today? Well, the differences with the 1030 Plus aren’t massively significant, so it’s still an excellent head unit and one of the best on the market. The 530 and 830 have similar features in a smaller package for less money… or at least, they did. At its new sale price, the 1030 is the same price as the 530, which doesn’t have a touchscreen, and $100 less than the 830.

Personally, I’ve always found the Edge 1030 a little large for my liking. At $299 though? That’s a compromise I could make. It’s an upgrade on the 830, and now costs $100 less.

Garmin Edge 520 Plus (US Deal)

$279.99 229.99 – Amazon US link

It’s not as good a deal as its big brother, but the 520 Plus is an excellent bike computer that’s used by pro cyclists and high-performance enthusiasts alike. Seriously, check Instagram for ten minutes and count how many you see.

It does all the stuff you’d expect. It has navigation. It has Strava Live Segments. It does that VO2 max stuff.

And at $229.99, it’s the best in its price range. It’s not a price that stops us in our tracks, but it’s a lot of computer for the money.

Garmin Edge (130 US Deal)

$199.99 $99.99 – Amazon US link

My personal favorite cycling computer is the Edge 130 Plus. There’s a big difference between the Edge 130 and the Edge 130 Plus, but it’s a killer deal at $99.99. It’s small and light, and does almost everything you want from a head unit.

Garmin Edge Explore (UK Deal)

£219.99 £129.00 – Amazon UK link

It’s a big discount on… whatever this one is. OK, we’re being facetious. This is a bargain price on a device that’s definitely aimed at the Freds of the world.

This is a navigation-focused computer. It’s also designed to be easy to use. It has maps and navigation, LiveTrack and GroupTrack, it supports smart lights and Varia Radar. It has 12 hour battery life. And it supports ebikes. There’s your audience, really.

Still, if that’s all you want, it’s a huge discount.
