The Second Best Thing You Can Do in a Velodrome
Berlin velodrome is now a Covid-19 vaccination center.
That’s really the entire article, so you can close the tab now. We’ll pad it out if you choose to persevere though. Here goes.
Berlin was the last Six Day before Covid killed Six Day racing off, so it’s a fitting site for a vaccination center. The velodrome will have played its part in bringing Six Days back.
You can’t ride the velodrome while it’s being used for vaccinations, so Germans looking toward the Olympics have had to move to the Cottbus facility. Mucho sacrifice.
Track centers, eh? Good if you like Heineken, bad if you like actually watching cycling without getting dizzy. A rather important industry person once came up to us half in the bag in a track center mid-race to tell us a woman had just walked past in a dress so low cut that he could see her areolas. With that considered, giving that space up for vaccination centers is probably for the best.
Other velodrome/vaccination crossover events: Derby velodrome in the UK (we didn’t know that existed) IS a vaccination center. Ballerup WAS SUPPOSED to be a vaccination center, but the Danish track team kicked off about it, which is a bit selfish really.
Alright, now you can really close the tab.
