2021 Sea Otter Classic – Gear Highlights

The 2021 Sea Otter Classic was one for the ages. Some highlights include Specialized’s new Crux, which takes performance ‘cross and gravel to a new level. Dynaplug’s Air Tool, combining their industry-leading tubeless tire plugs with an integrated C02 inflator to get riders back on the road or trail in seconds. Other highlights include testing the angle grinder-resistant Hiplok D1000, Aventon’s eBikes and special talks from Floyd Landis and Alison Tetrick.

Specialized Crux

An ultralight bike with massive tire clearance, the new Crux pivots from a full focus on cyclocross with an eye towards gravel performance. With what they learned from development of the Aethos, an entirely new carbon layup was implemented yielding a light yet responsive bike that is still UCI compliant. The result is a 725 gram frame that fits 47c tires and is equally at home on the gravel or between the tape.

Hiplok D1000

The D1000 from Hiplok ushers in a new era of mobile security. A portable angle-grinder proof lock, the D1000 is the only such lock on the market. Carrying a Diamond Sold Secure rating for bicycles and motorcycles, a square profile with a premium hardened steel core protects against bolt cutters. Anti-rotation, double locking tabs mean a thief would need to cut through both sides of the lock to steal whatever you’ve locked. The D1000 is the ultimate peace of mind solution for your motorcycle.

ABUS Pedelec 2.0

Designed specifically for urban use, the Pedelec 2.0 helmet from ABUS features an unmatched combination of safety and convenience features. Visibility is the first line of defense in the city, so the Pedelec 2.0 features 360º visibility with bright retroreflectors, as well as a large and bright integrated rear LED light. The flashing red triangle LED is one of the largest helmet-mounted lights on the market.

The cockpit is featherweight at 255g, thanks to an engineered carbon layup and titanium hardware. The seatpost is also scant at 136g. Both are available in a variety of sizes to fit many bikes and riders.

Dynaplug Road Tools

As Road tubeless has gained prominence and more wheel and tire manufacturers are fully supporting road tubeless setups, Dynaplug is ready when the road gets rough. Today marks the launch of two new tool options, The Dynaplug Air Road and Carbon Ultralite Road Racer. Each tool has been redesigned specifically for the needs of the modern Road cyclist, providing puncture repair and inflation options to expedite the flat repair.

Mosaic GT-X Adventure Bikes

Mosaic has added two new bikes to their G-Series lineup of gravel and adventure bikes. The GT-1X and GT-2X are two new Mosaic framesets for riders seeking a big tire, off-road capable titanium adventure bike. Both GT-X frames are designed around a 29×2.25 tire, a gravel-specific or MTB drivetrain, and a geometry that incorporates a longer top tube and shorter stem, allowing the rider to set up their GT-X in a drop bar or flat bar configuration. The addition of optional frame bag and accessory mounts, as well as rack and fender mounts, make the GT-X capable of all-season, all-terrain exploration.

Ombraz Sunglasses

Ombraz is the first and only armless sunglasses company. Instead of traditional arms, they use a marine-grade recycled nylon cord. The built-in cord prevents Ombraz from falling off, slipping down your nose, or causing discomfort on the sides of your head. You can drop them around your neck or toss them in your pocket or bag – there are no sidearms to break. They also have built-in side visors which reduce glare in town, on the trail, or on the water.
