Report On the hunt for stage wins at the Tour de Suisse this week, Team DSM and Andreas Leknessund delivered on their promise of aggressive racing as Leknessund powered to a brilliant solo win from the breakaway. Faced with more hilly terrain on stage two, the team rode well at the start of the day to get Leknessund into the break of ten which would go on to fight for the win. Sensing a moment to push on as the pace slowed, Leknessund launched a stinging attack and broke clear from the rest of the break inside 18 kilometres remaining.…

Report Team Jumbo-Visma showed from the start that they had big plans. A group of fifteen riders never got more than a two-minute lead. The black-and-yellow brigade appeared with several riders at the foot of the final climb and opened the throttle once more. After Christophe Laporte, Chris Harper, Tiesj Benoot and green points jersey winner Wout van Aert had done their work, it was Steven Kruijswijk’s turn. On the day’s last climb, the Dutchman rode at a scorching pace for kilometres on end and several riders from the now depleted peloton had to let go. A few kilometres from…
Report Stevie Williams won his first World Tour race. The 26-year-old Welshman surprised almost everyone with a reduced bunch sprint win where he outsprinted Max Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Andreas Kron (Lotto Soudal) after a 177km race around the Kusnacht region. The loops were hilly, and the temperatures reached 30 degrees, which took a toll on some riders. The initial breakaway of 7 had a max lead of 4 minutes. The breakaway was shedding during the stage, and the last rider was caught with 9km to go, just before the final climb where Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team), Vlasov (Bora-hansgrohe), and…
Report Dedication, values and effort have been rewarded on Saturday on stage seven of the 2022 Critérium du Dauphiné, as a top sportsperson and human being, Carlos Verona (Movistar Team), crowned a twelve-year pro career with a well-deserved maiden victory atop the ski resort of Vaujany. The Madrilian crowned an excellent job in a beautiful mountain stage, with the Col du Galibier (Hors Categorie) right from the start and followed by the endless Col de la Croix-de-Fer (Especial), where Verona and Gregor Mühlberger, part of an 18-rider breakaway, revealed themselves as two of the strongest in the field. The Austrian…

Report Wout van Aert has won for the second time in Critérium du Dauphiné. The classification leader beat his compatriot Jordi Meeus in the sprint of a depleted peloton on the finish line. It was Van Aert’s fifth win this season. For a long time, it was questionable whether it would come to a sprint at all. The peloton only managed to pass the four early breakaway riders in the final metres. Team Jumbo-Visma and several other teams had to do their utmost to catch the breakaway riders in time. Once the four escapees were caught, Christophe Laporte brought Van…
Report Filippo Ganna edged Wout van Aert in a tight time trial to win stage four of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Ganna beat the Jumbo Visma rider by just two seconds in a thrilling conclusion to the 31.9km test, with teammate Ethan Hayter finishing third on the stage to move into the top five overall. Earlier, Ganna had set the fastest time and faced a long wait in the hot seat with race leader Van Aert the last rider to start. There were nervy moments for the Italian as Van Aert was fastest at the first intermediate check, before the…
Report The Critérium du Dauphiné really started on Tuesday for the contenders in the general classification, and David Gaudu did not miss his appointment. At the end of a relatively clear day, about twenty riders showed up in Chastreix-Sancy at the top of the final ascent, and the Breton climber knew how to perfectly navigate and assert his top speed in the last 100 meters to come and settle Wout van Aert, just that, on the line. The leader of the Groupama-FDJ Cycling Team thus achieves his second success of the season and signs his return after a delicate spring.…
