Cycling Smartglasses Manufacturer Everysight Selected for T-Mobile’s 5G Accelerator Program
T-Mobile has kicked off its 2021 T-Mobile Accelerator Spring Immersive Technology Program, designed to be “part of T-Mobile’s ongoing mission to fuel 5G innovation.” This is relevant because Everysight–who are also friends, and former colleagues, of Cyclry–are one of the eight handpicked participants.
Everysight’s Raptor is a pair of smartglasses that display all your ride metrics and maps. They contain all the bike computer technology within them, so they fully replace your Garmin, and weigh less than most handlebar-mounted bike computers. They’re also the first, and for now also the only, smartglasses to display data on the lens of the sunglasses, rather than on an attached screen. Oh yeah, and they take crazy good POV photos and videos too.
Riding with the Raptor is a revolutionary experience, and it definitely feels transformative to use a bike computer designed for humans rather than handlebars. You won’t want to go back to that weird outdated period where people used to bolt a little computer to their handlebars, that’s for sure.
NOW they’re pushing on even further. 5G technology further enhances the AR wearable offering from Everysight, which is an exciting prospect for a product that previously handled full connectivity perfectly.
T-Mobile tells us that “For the next three months, the following handpicked startups will work directly with technologists and business leaders at T-Mobile to build the next big thing in immersive 5G technology from AR wearables to holographic communications, 3D data storytelling, volumetric video streaming, immersive virtual learning and more.”
“5G is blurring the boundary between our physical and virtual worlds to create immersive experiences that better connect us to people and things around the globe. Businesses are finding better ways to collaborate virtually, and consumers are being engaged with new experiences that bring them closer than ever to the products and entertainment they love,” said John Saw, EVP of Advanced & Emerging Technologies at T-Mobile. “I can’t wait to see the innovation that occurs from this talented group of developers that are pioneering the way in immersive 5G technology.”
So there. Maybe Everysight will come out with something even more revolutionary for cyclists. Maybe it’ll be something else that’s equally exciting, which is a very real prospect given their track record. Either way, we’d love to get a slightly more slimline version of the Raptor on our faces at some point down the line.
Other participants in the T-Mobile Accelerator Spring 2021 program are: Condense Reality (captures and stream volumetric video in real-time so you can watch sports in 3D on a VR headset), FlowImmersive (data storytelling), Kai XR (accessible 360˚ platform for kids, for things like virtual field trips), Longan Vision Corp. (smart firefighting Augmented Reality wearable device to enhance firefighter’s vision in fire operations), Matsuko (holographic communications… sci-fi much??), Multicasting.io (multi-angle real-time social video sharing), Prisms of Reality, Inc. (experiential VR STEM learning).
All sounds good. We’re most excited about Everysight though.
