Setting out from a paradise-like Dominican beach and with the crystalline Caribbean Sea in the background, the first edition of La Leyenda del Caribe began on Monday with the Prologue stage. Two hundred racers representing 25 different nationalities crossed the starting line on the beach of Hotel Ocean El Faro to cover 16km of challenging terrain that put the cyclists to the test and gave them a taste of what they’ll to face in the coming days around Punta Cana.

During the loop they had the opportunity to learn how their body behaves under the intense sun, high temperatures, dense humidity and strong winds on the coast of the Dominican Republic, which will help them figure out how to regulate their performances in order to become in Legends.

Shared happiness is happiness doubled

La Leyenda del Caribe is the ideal setting to spend vacations with family and friends, enjoying the best of a luxurious all-inclusive hotel so that our cyclists only have to worry about their physical and mental preparation while their families enjoy an earthly paradise.

This was confirmed by the excitement of competitors when they saw their family and friends waiting for them at the finish-line, where we had the opportunity to talk with them and learn some unique stories that fill us with joy. Just yesterday, 8th May, two-time Legend Pablo Francisco Duvillard, celebrates his 19th wedding anniversary with his wife, Rosalinda. They wanted to come to enjoy this important date with their family, having a dream vacation and and Pablo being able to enjoy doing what he loves the most. “For us, it’s very nice that they take good care of the family, because that gives us motivation to come back time and again, and we like to ride and share time together,” he said, It’s a sentiment shared by Rosalinda as well, “In addition to the fact that the race is enjoyed by the cyclists, the family is always super spoiled and well cared for by the entire team and the hotel staff.”

The home Puerto Rican entourage impressed everyone with their contagious energy. Although not the largest nationality in the race, the locals proved to be the most united and energetic, with all the riders waiting at the end of the 16km prologue until the last Boricua racer reached the finish line.

The racers are already preparing for the 70km that await them today on Stage 1, River. It will be a beautiful and very varied stage, in which they’ll find the very different landscapes of rice fields, tropical forests, rivers, steep ascents and descents that will really show them what La Leyenda del Caribe is all about.
