Leaked: Garmin Enduro Smartwatch
Update: It launched on February 16, and all details below were correct.
Please allow us to be the first to reveal… the Garmin Enduro. It’s an “Ultra Performance Multisport GPS Watch,” with an outrageous battery life.
True to form, Garmin “accidentally” revealed the Enduro briefly through an official Amazon listing. Recall that Garmin prematurely updated their site with the upcoming Edge 1030+ device last year. These leaks are getting so common that we might start to think it’s a marketing strategy were it not for the fact that the only people who discuss them are a handful of Twitter nerds. And, uh, us too.
Here’s the listing. Yeah, the image is of a USB charger. No, we’re not going to joke about jabbing a USB charger into your wrist and wearing it as a watch. Guess they’re saving the product image for the real launch, huh.
The release date is February 16, 2021. So we’ll watch our inbox for our Garmin rep emailing us about it.
The listing says the price is $899.99. We’d guess that’s right, but Garmin currently has an open price point a few hundred lower, and there’s also a gap at a higher price. Yes, higher.
Now the fun stuff:
- It gets 80 hours in GPS mode. Eighty hours.
- That’s because it’s solar powered too. Like the Fenix 6 Solar.
- Premium materials suggest it’s a top-tier offering, likely a next-gen watch.
- It’s clearly aimed at ultrarunners.
- It has ClimbPro, which is one of the best features out there right now.
“Go the distance with the Enduro™ ultraperformance multisport GPS watch. It features customizable power management modes and a Power Glass™ solar charging lens that harvests the power of the sun to extend battery life up to one year (all-day wear, 3 hours per day outside in 50,000 lux conditions). Prepare for even the longest races with advanced training features, including trail run VO2 max, ultrarun rest timer and the ClimbPro feature, which provides real-time information on your current and upcoming climbs, descents and flats. Stay in top form with an enhanced recovery timer and workout recommendations based on your sleep and wellness data. And navigate the most challenging environments with multi-GNSS support and a barometric altimeter and compass.”
Smartwatches for cycling
OK, so why do we give a shit about something primarily aimed at runners? Well, we kind of don’t give a shit about $900 watches, or $900 anything for that matter.
But Garmin’s watches have increasingly been adopted by cyclists—they connect to all your sensors, record all your data, and have all the data screens you need. Many of our riding partners have shown up with Fenix watches, and even one of the Cyclry crew is at it now.
Oh yeah, triathletes too. Fuck them though.
Here’s the deal. We’re not sure if this information ever made it out of the Cyclry MS Teams chatter, but we have the inside scoop on something that’s going to make riding with a smartwatch absolutely awesome. The watch you wear all day functioning as your bike computer too, complete with HRM and all your ANT+ sensors, is super convenient. We’ve used it, we have videos. Unfortunately we’re still bound by an embargo, but know that it’s coming.
