Lorena Wiebes powers to sprint success at GP Oetingen

Do we care about the GP Oetingen? Like, more than Strade Bianche and Paris-Nice, which we’ve so far only expressed opinions on over on the secret social medias that only the greatest in the sport get access to? (Sorry if you don’t have access. Send proof of monument or grand tour victory to our email address if you want in. Bradley, we already know what you did so you can just email us as usual.)

Don’t know. DGAF. It’s important for the men’s sport to experience this type of erasure. Okay, here’s the race report from our guest correspondent.

Is this image helpful? Like, does it connote anything at all? Is this like, a halfassed illustration for a William Gibson novel in the 1980s? If so, then good. That’s our aesthetic.

Team DSM’s Women’s program opened their 2022 account in style with a spectacular ride at GP Oetingen today, as Lorena Wiebes finished off a superb team performance to take the win.

Keeping tabs on proceedings throughout the entirety of the afternoon; the team were fully committed to the plan of setting up fast-finisher Wiebes for the finale. Riding cohesively as a unit, Francesca Barale and Esmée Peperkamp did a great job early in the race, before Pfeiffer Georgi and Charlotte Kool shut down any dangerous moves in the closing stages, breaking the will of the attackers and setting up a bunch kick to the line. Controlling it all the way under the flamme rouge, Georgi and Kool delivered Wiebes into the perfect position, who then put on a dominant display of power to take a brilliant win for the team; raising her arms aloft in glory as she crossed the line.
