Raleigh Relaunches the T.I.-Raleigh for its 40th Anniversary
The T.I.-Raleigh was the ultimate bike in its, and the sport’s, heyday. Joop Zoetemelk announced its arrival in the peloton by riding it to victory in the 1980 Tour de France for the TI-Raleigh-Creda team, and it remains a beautiful, iconic bike 40 years later. We love it, because we know that cycling was only good in the 1980s.
With Reynolds 753 frame tubing, Cinelli bars, and Campagnolo drive train, it was the best performing and coolest bike out there. Think whatever the current best carbon slab is, but with personality and built with care rather than getting rebranded as it rolls off the Giant factory conveyor belt.
Raleigh have produced a brand new model recreating the original, and they’ve left no detail spared. That means it includes a Selle Italia Turbo 1980 saddle, iconic red Reynolds 753 frame tubing, Cinelli bars, Mavic Rims, and Campagnolo drive train. And a 10 speed cassette.
To celebrate its launch, Raleigh are holding an online event with a Joop Zoetemelk interview, an unboxing (ugh) of the TI-Raleigh 40th Anniversary Edition bicycle, and a question and answer session with the Raleigh team who have lovingly brought this prestigious anniversary model to life.
The full bike costs £2,500, and the frameset is £1,500. Not cheap by any means, but a lot cheaper than buying an original 1980s model in 2020. As with everything in 2020, you can enter your email into their lead gen campaign celebratory event RSVP in order to more effectively give them money be the first to get the opportunity to own an iconic piece of cycling history.
We once had one, given to us by a friend, who was given it by his friend. Wonder how many times it had been stolen to get to that stage. Can we review one, please? Raleigh? Hello?
