Sonny Colbrelli to Retire Following Heart Problems
Sonny Colbrelli has decided to retire from pro racing. The Paris-Roubaix winner suffered cardiac arrest in March and has not raced since.
Following tests that revealed a cardiac arrhythmia leading to cardiopulmonary arrest, Colbrelli began to use a subcutaneous heart-monitoring defibrillator. However, Italy has banned elite cyclists using this, or similar devices, from competition.
He toyed with the idea of racing as Swiss, and now appears to have resigned himself to retirement.
The Bahrain-Victorious team will host a press conference, in which they’ll announce everything we already wrote.
Farewell, Sonny. A fine palmares.
