The 35th Tucson Bicycle Classic Brings Pros and Amateurs Together Again this Weekend

Cruel rumors are circulating that we’re sharing this because the race logo is entirely our aesthetic. And those rumors are true.

The 35th annual Tucson Bicycle Classic returns this weekend from March 3-5. Pros and amateurs will gather from around the world for 3 days of racing across the greater Tucson area.

This year’s race will begin in Vail on Friday, move to Sahuarita on Saturday, and conclude in Oro Valley on Sunday. Sunday’s race, the Oro Valley Circuit Race p/b Rutledge Dental, will include a day of festivities and family fun in Naranja Park.

“Our goal is to create community events, with a bike race,” says Marco Colbert, Tucson Bicycle Classic Race Director. “We want the communities we race in to be excited that pros and amateurs are racing in their backyard. Bike races do not come without disruption, but we want whatever disruption there is to be viewed as a good thing for the businesses, community members, and the racers.”

The Competitors

Tucson Bicycle Classic has a long history of drawing in professional riders from all over the world. This year is no exception. Noteworthy teams include:

  • National Cycling League
  • DNA Pro Cycling Team (Womens)
  • Project Echelon

Each of these teams will bring their highest caliber riders to contend for the title of General Classification Winner. There is $10,000 in prize money being offered this year, split across categories, with pros receiving $3,000 for the General Classification win. The race offers equal cash purses and equal race distances for male and female athletes.
