Vuelta a San Juan CANCELED

Time to update our 2021 Bike Race Cancelation Bingo Cards. The Vuelta a San Juan, optimistically scheduled to take place from January 24-31, is officially canceled for this season.

Yes, it’s COVID-19. Following recommendations of national and international bodies, the organizers have decided that it’s not possible to safely and effectively run the Argentine race this year.

But it’ll be back. The organizers told us: “San Juan will continue to work with the same passion and spirit for the growth of the sport and this Argentine classic that will seek in the coming years to maintain its international character in which the world’s cyclists will continue to shine in our land, when this health situation has been overcome.”

Chris Froome (Israel Start-Up Nation), Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), and João Almeida (Deceuninck-QuickStep) were among the riders expecting to start the race. Though we should add that the situation related to travel had become so tenuous that Sagan already let slip that his first race of the season was going to be Omloop.

So another one bites the dust. If this season turns into another year of people trying to make us care about Zwift racing, we’re just going to turn this site into a mommy blog or something.
