Wahoo Fitness becomes UCI’s Official Supplier
The Union Cycliste Internationale has officially partnered with Atlanta-based cycling tech company Wahoo Fitness, with the latter becoming the Official Supplier of the UCI Road World Championships. The partnership lasts for the next two editions of the Worlds.
Apparently this deal means Wahoo will be “making its top-of-the-range products available for all participants,” though competing sponsorships and individual preferences always make for a convoluted Worlds even without the addition of an Official Supplier. Wahoo makes a whole suite of cycling technology products, such as home trainers (smart trainers in particular), heart rate monitors, bike computers and cycling training software. So hit up Ancestry, find a link to the Cayman Islands, and get working on a call-up to the Worlds… and bring the extra-large mooching sack.
As well as the Worlds, Wahoo will support the UCI’s Solidarity Programme, providing equipment to both the UCI World Cycling Centre – the UCI’s coaching and training center in Aigle (Switzerland) – and its trainees around the world, plus its Continental Centres and National Federations. The cutting-edge equipment put at their disposal will allow athletes to easily train indoors using power measurements and help them to follow structured training programs necessary for progressing to the top levels of competitive cycling.
But wait, there’s more. Wahoo will also offer its training videos, based on footage from UCI events, to members of its community. These videos will be available on its integrated training platform, and former Cyclry client, Wahoo SUF Training.
UCI President David Lappartient says: “The arrival of Wahoo Fitness among the UCI’s partners is terrific news. Wahoo stands out when it comes to innovation and therefore has a profile that is in line with our Federation’s ambition and drive to modernise cycling, making our sport even more appealing to the general public. The recognised quality of Wahoo products will be greatly appreciated by the participants of the UCI Road World Championships too, and their contribution to the Solidarity Programme will help foster budding champions and offer new development opportunities in new territories.”
The CEO of Wahoo Mike Saturnia says: “Wahoo has a strong record of helping elite athletes achieve standout performances in the UCI WorldTour and UCI Women’s WorldTour, and at the UCI World Championships. We are excited to bring this experience to our new partnership with the UCI. However, what makes this special is that Wahoo and the UCI share a common goal to enhance the performance of all cyclists and make cycling more accessible to riders at all levels throughout the world. This partnership strikes the right balance between elite performance and accessibility.”
