2023 Vuelta Femenina Stage 1 | Highlights
Report
Team Jumbo-Visma Women has won the team time trial at the La Vuelta Femenina. The yellow-and-black brigade was the fastest over the 14.5-kilometre course in Torrevieja, with Canyon//SRAM Racing one second behind. Anna Henderson crossed the line first and will start in the red leader’s jersey tomorrow.
With Henderson, Riejanne Markus, Marianne Vos, Amber Kraak, Eva van Agt, Noemi Rüegg and Coryn Labecki in the squad, Team Jumbo-Visma got off to a fast start. At the intermediate point, the team recorded the fastest time.
At an average speed of 48.2 kilometres per hour, the Dutch formation completed the course in 18 minutes and 3 seconds. It was the winning time, as all the other teams struggled to beat Team Jumbo-Visma’s performance. Only Canyon//SRAM Racing came close with a time of 18 minutes and 4 seconds.
“It’s fantastic to start a grand tour like this”, Vos said. “We tried to make it a steady and fast time trial, and we managed. We were all a bit tense when we were in the hot seat. We weren’t sure what our time was worth. Winning a race with the team is the best feeling there is.”
Vos, who will start tomorrow in the mountain jersey, hopes to keep the momentum going for as long as possible. “We want to win another stage and see how far we can advance in the general classification. We have opportunities because the stages over the next few days are flat. But first, we are going to enjoy this victory.”
